kirklees street wardens

The Street Wardens Scheme has three main objectives.

1. To work with the police and other agencies to reduce crime and the fear of crime. This does not involve actual enforcement, the main role of the Wardens is to observe and report.

2. To report environment problems such as rocking flags, potholes, litter etc to the appropriate council department.

3. To provide a "meet and greet" and information service to all centre users.

Litter
Litter is both unsightly and can be a health hazard.  It is certainly an unpleasant greeting to a town centre. Wardens assist in identifying litter hotspots and arrange its removal.

Street Lighting
Street lights are a major feature in reducing crime as well as a safety issue.  Damaged columns can  result in an electrical hazard. Wardens report faults to ensure speedy repair.

Anti-social behaviour
The wardens aim to reduce incidents of anti-social behaviour by carrying out high visibility patrols.

Approachable staff
Providing a "meet and greet" and information service to all town
centre users.

Graffiti
Graffiti is unsightly and can often be a distraction to motorists. Street Wardens get involved in identifying and arranging for its removal.

Working in partnership
By working closely with the Police and other agencies the Street Wardens aim to improve the environment for
everyone.
