Our
reservation at the Live Lounge was for 7pm on a Wednesday
night. The restaurant is located on the main street of
Lindley village meaning that at that time there was plenty
of on street parking available. The restaurant itself does
not have its own car park.
As you enter the building there is a pleasant bar area where
you can take a seat on a mixture of sofas and chairs. It’s
well decorated with a black and white theme and background
music. We were greeted by the maître'd who also doubled as
our waiter for the evening as the restaurant was quiet. He
supplied us with menus, wine list and took our orders for
pre dinner drinks. I opted for a gin and tonic and my
partner had a bottle of lager as no draft beers available.
Drinks arrived swiftly along with a complimentary dish of
olives.
The menu was clearly divided between a la carte and table
d’hote options both of which were explained by our waiter.
The set menu gave excellent value for money with a choice of
two courses for £12.95 or three for £15.95. Each course had
four choices providing a good variety to suit most tastes.
My partner made his selection from the a la carte menu and
opted for a starter of Shrimp and Kohlrabi roll with
tarragon cream at a cost of £5.25 together with main course
Roast loin of cod, pomme neuf, green pea puree together with
a special recipe tomato sauce for £18.95. To start I ordered
a Mediterranean Salad followed by butter pan- seared fillet
of Seabass from the table d'hôte. To accompany our meal we
selected a bottle of dry white wine for £14.95 from a wide
range available.
We then relaxed with our drinks until our waiter returned to
show us to our table. At this point we should say that the
restaurant is located on an upper floor with the only access
being via a flight of stairs which would prove difficult for
those with mobility issues.
Our table was well set with a lovely pressed white table
cloth and lit candle . The room it-self was a good mix of
rustic-chic with exposed beams on the ceiling and brickwork
on walls. The tables are well spaced giving an intimate
dining experience. The wine was served once we sat down and
was well chilled.
The starters arrived promptly, both were beautifully
presented. My salad consisted of feta cheese, sun-dried
tomatoes and olives with a tasty pesto dressing. The shrimps
and kohlrabi were encased in a delicate filo pastry served
warm which was delicious as I insisted on tasting it!
Both of us were pleased with our choices and looking forward
to our main course. There was just the right amount of time
between starter and main course so that we weren’t too full
and not too long to wait. We were not disappointed when they
did arrive, even though I’d ordered from the table d'hôte
they did not skimp on portion size. I had two good sized
fillets of seabass laid on top of French beans and carrots.
The fish was well seasoned and melted in my mouth, the
sautéed potatoes went well and were yummy.
The cod loin was a hearty fillet and was complimented by the
pea puree and plenty of their secret recipe tomato sauce,
this fish was succulent. Both of us cleared our plates, the
quality of the food and flavours were superb.
Whilst a dessert from the three course menu was appealing we
opted for coffee to finish our meal instead. The waiter
checked we’d been happy with our meal with genuine interest.
He mentioned they’d been let down by some cancelled bookings
and was very quiet, but I guess on a mid week night this can
happen. They don’t know what they missed out on is all I’d
say and it certainly didn’t spoil the atmosphere or our
evening,
The bill including wine and coffee came to £63.65. Although
both a la carte courses were lovely we’d probably both
choose from the table d'hôte on next visit as there was
plenty of choice without losing any quality. Would we
recommend this restaurant ? Certainly. Would we go back ?
Definitely!
