In 1919 a young photographer called Willie Naylor decided to set up his own company in Huddersfield. Having completed his training in Halifax he entered an agreement with his former employer and brought the company name with him - Greaves Photographers.

Studio-based portrait and wedding photography provided virtually all the work at the time, though the introduction of smaller and more portable cameras slowly enabled wedding photography in particular to move outdoors.

Willie Naylor was later joined by his two sons and whilst Philip helped to improve the portrait and wedding side, Chris decided to build up a portfolio of new industrial clients.

A third generation of the family have now taken over the running of the company. David Naylor and his brother John have the task of taking Greaves into the future.
